Hazardous political agenda affecting medical care in the USA!
It is January 22, 2025. After finishing a clinical rotation, I had the displeasure of going back home and reading terrible news that will affect US citizens and the medical care they receive. President Trump has signed several executive actions that will negatively impact the quality of medical care and affordability for millions of US citizens. Here are the actions:
- President Trump instructs HHS and CDC and FDA to halt external communications without prior approval from Trump appointees, this move makes it harder for health officials to alert citizens about impending risks in consuming contaminated food and viral/bacterial outbreaks.
- President Trump has signed an executive order to withdraw the US from the WHO, citing dissatisfaction of the COVID-19 pandemic. WHO is responsible for eradicating smallpox in 1967, as well as 99% eradication of polio, one of the most harmful infectious diseases of all time. People who were infected needed to live the rest of their lives in iron lungs, devices that respired for the patients. RFK Jr, Trump’s pick for HHS secretary, has been vocal on his stance against vaccines. Vaccines and herd immunity has been one of mankind’s greatest achievements. Harmful diseases like tetanus, smallpox, polio, were once diseases that plagued civilization and caused early death and mortality. We cannot go back to the dark ages of medicine.

- Former President Biden enacted legislature for Medicare and medicaid to bargain with pharmaceutical companies to lower the cost of much needed prescription drugs like insulin. President Trump has repealed this legislation, which will now increase the cost of medications like eliquis, used for blood clots, jardiance, for diabetes and heart failure, xarelto used for blood clot prevention and treatment, and many other medications.

- Read this and come up with your own conclusions. The fact of the matter is President Trump is going to discriminate against minorities, whether immigrants or ideological. We all have to stick up for each other in the next couple of years. As a medical doctor, I will advocate for the proper care of all individuals regardless of religious, ethnic, or gender background.
- Tariffs https://www.politico.com/tag/tariffs
- Research and read at your own perusal. Here is what’s going to happen, tariffs make imported goods more expensive by 1) levying a tariff on the product either by percentage of item value or as a specific fee per unit 2)responsibility of paying tariff falls on importer, the entity bringing goods into the country 3) THIS COST IS PASSED ONTO CONSUMERS —-> Making the good more expensive, decreasing the demand. What’s the issue? EVERYTHING IS MADE IN CHINA. This includes disposable plastic medical items, active ingredients for pharmaceutical products, etc. Things are going to get way more expensive. Remember 10% inflation in 2022, Well, this will be. a. lot. worse.
All in all, I hope that was informative, I’m going back to studying. Please send emails/call your local representatives.
